The Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures by Age

At Burt & Will Plastic Surgery and Laser Centre, we work with patients of all ages. Although our patients are diverse and have different cosmetic goals, some of the procedures we offer are popular across all age groups. However, other treatments are much more popular among specific age groups.

Here are the most requested plastic surgery procedures, separated by age group:

Teenagers

One of the few cosmetic procedures an experienced plastic surgeon will perform on a teenager is rhinoplasty. A teenager with a misshapen, over-sized or crooked nose may feel very self-conscious and be subject to cruel teasing from peers. Other facial and body features may change over time, but the structure of the nose changes the least.

Rhinoplasty can improve the appearance of the nose and help a person come out of his or her shell and feel more comfortable and confident. It’s common for rhinoplasty patients to mark their high school graduation or start of college with a nose job.

Trained plastic surgeons will advise the candidate to wait until his or her nose has stopped developing (usually between the ages of 15-18) and they are old enough to make a mature decision about surgery.

20’s

Breast augmentation is popular among patients in their 20s. At that age, the breasts have typically stopped developing and some women may be unhappy with naturally small or asymmetrical breasts. We use saline and silicone implants to enhance the volume and shape of the breasts. Implants are designed to last for many years, and many women like to begin enjoying them during their 20s.

30’s

In general, plastic surgery candidates in their 30s have two chief concerns: the physical effects of pregnancy on their bodies, and early-onset signs of aging.

We help women whose bodies have changed with pregnancy (i.e., smaller/saggier breasts, extra abdominal skin and fat) to reclaim their pre-baby bodies. The degree of correction is different for every woman. Some women achieve their desired results with liposuction alone; others require a more comprehensive treatment plan (called a mommy makeover) that combines breast enhancement and body sculpting procedures for a more significant transformation.

For women who are bothered by the appearance of lines, wrinkles and areas of sun damage, we offer non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Because patients in their 30s are still relatively young, many do not require surgical intervention. We have found that non-surgical facial rejuvenation options such as Botox injections or laser skin resurfacing produces satisfactory results without the financial or time commitment required by surgical treatment.

40’s

Signs of aging develop or deepen during a person’s 40s. The eyes and forehead are particularly susceptible to wrinkles and skin laxity. Under-eye bags may appear or the brows may start to droop, contributing to a tired or sad appearance. We commonly perform eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) and brow lift to reduce these signs of aging and give our patients a more youthful and well-rested appearance.

50’s and older

At our practice, facelift is very popular among patients ages 50 and older. Facelift provides a more complete transformation than procedures designed specifically for the eyes. Facelift will address sagging and loss of volume in the lower face (e.g., the cheeks and neck).
