Ditch the Bulky Sweater During Sweater Season

A muffin top looks great on a muffin–not on you. We all know that back fat is old news, chub rub is irritating, and bulging thighs are not a sight for sore eyes. Many of us feel we don’t have a choice but to hide it all under a bulky sweater. We have dieted, worked-out, sweated and still have stubborn flab on our abs. We’ve explored low-fat, no-fat diets, low, high carb diets, and yet those stubborn pockets of fat have refused to take their final bow.  Luckily for us, we live in an age of innovation, because Burt & Will Plastic Surgery offers two exciting options to trim away that excess fat.

TruSculpt

The non-invasive TruSculpt is here. Cutera’s TruSculpt directs radio frequency energy to problem areas of the body that can’t shed the fat. TruSculpt also reduces the appearance of cellulite, so you can finally wear snug clothing without having to worry about dimpled thighs. Cutera’s TruSculpt expands options for effective body contouring with little discomfort and no downtime.  What is so novel about TruSculpt is that it addresses both small or large areas of the body. TruSculpt works by breaking up fat cells deep under the dermis while the top layer of the skin is protected.

The versatile TruSculpt offers patients a great deal of flexibility.  It can be used on triceps, thighs, love handles, under the chin, on the abs, flanks, and buttocks.  Thanks to TruSculpt, we can now have great wardrobe choices like cold shoulder sweaters, crop tops, and backless dresses.  We can now wear high-waisted jeans with extreme confidence.

TruSculpt also tones the skin. As TruSculpt breaks down the fat cells, it also stimulates collagen production and tightens the skin. People with all skin tones can be treated with TruSculpt without concern for hypo or hyperpigmentation.

The best candidates for TruSculpt are those who are at their ideal weight. They typically have a BMI of less than 30.

Treatment lasts about one hour.  No topical numbing cream or any type of sedation is required.  A wand-like transducer glides over the area to be treated. Each pass takes approximately 4 minutes. Following treatment, there may be slight swelling or redness, but that’s only temporary.  There is no downtime, no scarring, and you can return to your normal activities immediately.

Optimal results are visible within a few months and multiple treatments may be required.  Drs. Will and Burt will carefully explain the procedure during your consultation.

Liposuction

If your back flab and floppy flanks are keeping you from wearing the sleek form-fitting clothes that are dominating fashion, then liposuction may be the right choice for you.  It is more invasive than TruSculpt and you will need to plan for a recovery time, but it can sculpt your body with precision.

Make sure to educate yourself on the liposuction options available.  Your surgeon may also recommend a tummy tuck as well to tighten muscles. During liposuction, you will be sedated and a few incisions will be made in the body. Then a cannula, a small tube device, suctions the fat from the body.

There are four types of liposuction: regular liposuction, tumescent liposuction, ultrasound-assisted liposuction, and power liposuction.

Tumescent liposuction involves a wetting solution and local anesthetic that is administered by IV.  It shrinks the blood vessels and reduces post-surgical pain.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction melts fat and once it is liquefied, the fat is suctioned out.  Traditional liposuction and tumescent liposuction are performed manually. Power liposuction is performed mechanically and is used to contour the more difficult areas of the body.

After liposuction, the only scars you’ll have will have shrunk to look like small moles. Your results might take a full year to fully appear once the swelling goes down, but you’ll be able to look lithe in your cute fall leggings.
