BOTOX® is an FDA-approved, purified form of highly diluted botulinum toxin that is used to relax the facial muscles. When injected, the substance blocks the muscular nerve signals, weakening the muscles so they cannot contract. It is one of the most commonly requested products at Burt & Will Plastic Surgery and Dermatology. BOTOX® is able to conveniently and non-invasively stave off signs of aging. If you would like to learn more about BOTOX® injections, and how they can refresh your entire face, Drs. Burt and Will would be happy to meet with you and discuss your options.
The most common use for BOTOX® is to relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and lines around the outer eyes (crow’s feet), squint lines between the eyes, frown lines across the forehead, bands on the neck and vertical lip lines. The procedure is popular among patients seeking a youthful boost, who are not quite ready to undergo procedures such as facelift or forehead lift. BOTOX® can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), migraine headaches and eyelid muscle spasms.
What to Expect During Treatment
Dr. Burt or Dr. Will perform all the BOTOX® injections themselves. This procedure involves injecting small amounts of BOTOX® into the wrinkle-causing muscles. This is not painful — you may feel some minor discomfort, but we will provide ice packets, as well as a homeopathic medicine to minimize bruising and swelling.
It’s crucial for a skilled professional to administer BOTOX®; when carelessly used, it can affect your natural facial expressions and give your face a frozen or surprised appearance. Drs. Burt and Will and the rest of our team have many years of experience using BOTOX® and artfully apply it in pre-determined areas of your face for the best outcomes.
A BOTOX® treatment session usually does not take more than 15 minutes, making it the perfect lunchtime treatment.
You should notice the results of BOTOX® within 24 to 48 hours, and they will continue to improve over the next week. Results last three to four months, after which you will need repeat treatments to maintain your new look. After several treatments, you may notice your results last longer. If you like, our office can send you reminders to schedule regular appointments.
Yes, BOTOX® is safe to use in wrinkle-reducing treatment. It has been approved by the FDA to correct the glabellar lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows known as “frown lines”) and crow’s feet.
No, BOTOX® treatment is not painful. Because the needles used to inject the product are very short and thin, you should not experience any pain during treatment.
You may have mild swelling or redness after your treatment, but these side effects will quickly disappear.
You should start to notice your results and the muscle relaxation within one to three days to a week. Your wrinkles will look smoother and your skin may look tighter in the treated area. Wrinkles that are in place will take one to two months to smoothen out and remove the memory with the skin that has created the wrinkles.
Your BOTOX® results will last three to four months. After the effects of BOTOX® have resided, your wrinkles will return.
We recommend repeat treatments if you like your results. We can help you schedule recurring treatments at our office to maintain the effects of BOTOX®. Since the procedure is so quick, it’s easy to squeeze into a lunch break or while running errands.
It’s difficult to give a cost estimate without knowing the number of injections needed, the treatment area and other factors. In general, larger treatment areas that require more injections will be more expensive than smaller areas and fewer injections.
After meeting with you and discussing your personal needs and goals, our team will provide a price quote for BOTOX® treatment. BOTOX®, Xeomin® and Dysport treatments are all priced the same and we will help determine which product and how many units are right for you.
