Juvéderm® is an FDA-approved, hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler used at the plastic surgery practice in Burr Ridge and Naperville and laser center of Drs. Burt and Will. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar found naturally in human skin, so the risk of allergic reaction to Juvéderm® is rare. Because hyaluronic acid binds water (in the way a sponge absorbs water), Juvéderm® is a very hydrating product that acts as an inflating cushion to the skin to support facial structures and contours that have lost volume.

Juvéderm® Uses

Juvéderm® is frequently used to add volume to the nasolabial folds (lines around the nose), marionette lines (corners of the mouth and chin) and tear troughs (lower eyelids). In addition to acting as a cushion, the hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm® also brings water to the surface of the skin, causing your complexion to look fresher and more supple.

What to Expect During Treatment

On average, Juvéderm® treatment takes about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on how many lines are being treated. We use ice packs and topical anesthesia to numb your skin and prevent any discomfort. In addition, Juvéderm® has a built-in numbing agent, so treatment will not be painful. Drs. Burt and Will use a fine needle to inject small amounts of Juvéderm® into the targeted area of your face to reduce the appearance of lines, creases and hollowed areas.

You should notice results almost immediately. You will be able to return to your normal activities right after treatment, as there is no downtime required. If you have minor bruising or swelling, you may apply makeup to cover it up. Any tenderness will disappear within a few days.

Juvéderm® may be used safely in conjunction with BOTOX®, if you and our skincare professionals decide that is a treatment approach best suited to your needs.

Juvéderm® Results

Most people are able to tolerate Juvéderm® without complications, and allergic reactions are very rare. Hyaluronic acid is eventually absorbed by your body, so the results of Juvéderm® treatment are temporary. They usually last an average of nine months (and in some cases, up to a year!), so repeat treatment is necessary to maintain your results.
